Glacial Cascade

Inspiration:
Jagged turquoise face of a tidewater glacier set in coastal Alaska—walls of compressed blue ice that grind slowly toward the sea. The low, overcast sky diffuses light across the scene, allowing every subtle hue—mint, cerulean, violet ice—to glow against the monochrome atmosphere. The piece captures a rare blend of power and stillness. Invites contemplation of nature’s slow, relentless transformations and the fleeting moments of crystalline beauty they create.

Form:
Crinkled plaster folds mimic fractured crevasses; a sweeping ridge marks the glacier’s edge, separating icy mass from blank, wind-whipped sky.

Palette & finish:
Layered cerulean and teal glazes in the lower half, pearl-white and frost grey in the upper, topped with interference blue mica in the lower half so the “ice” flashes lilac and silver as light moves.
